A family estate
shaped by time
Since 1639, the Obritzhauser family has been rooted in agriculture in Hohenwarth. Today, the estate continues as a personal winery led by Stefan Obritzhauser, where family tradition, winegrowing, and hands-on craftsmanship still define the work.
Rooted in Hohenwarth since 1639
The Obritzhauser family has worked in agriculture, livestock farming, and winegrowing in Hohenwarth since 1639. Over generations, the estate developed as a mixed farming operation, shaped by steady work, practical knowledge, and a deep connection to the land.
In 1939, Josef and Anna Obritzhauser — Stefan's grandparents — founded their own estate as a combined farm and winery. For decades the family kept cattle, later shifting more focus toward agriculture and viticulture. By 1994, pig farming was also discontinued, and the business continued as agriculture and winery alone.
In 2016, Stefan Obritzhauser took over the estate. After graduating in wine and fruitgrowing in 2002, he built experience both in Austria and abroad, working harvests and wineries in California, New Zealand, Australia, France, South Africa, Canada, and across Austria. Those years gave him a broad international perspective while strengthening his respect for small, authentic wine estates at home.
Today, Stefan works professionally in Austrian sparkling wine and oenology during the week and personally cares for the family estate in Hohenwarth on weekends, still supported by his father. Most grapes are sold to other winemakers, while fruit from the house garden is used for the estate's schnapps.

Tradition, honesty, and a personal way of making wine
Weingut Obritzhauser is guided by a simple philosophy: stay close to the land, stay honest in the cellar, and keep the experience personal.
Rooted in the Land
The estate grew out of generations of agriculture in Hohenwarth. Every decision begins with respect for the vineyard, the season, and the rhythm of the land.
01Authentic Winemaking
The wines reflect practical experience, family continuity, and Stefan's broad international knowledge — always brought back to a small and genuine Austrian estate.
02Personal Hospitality
Visits to the winery are direct and personal. Guests meet the winemaker himself, enjoy the wines at the estate, and experience the story behind the bottles in a simple, welcoming way.
03A small winery with a family character
Weingut Obritzhauser remains closely connected to family life and to the village of Hohenwarth. It is not built around mass production, but around continuity, care, and the kind of personal work that gives a small estate its identity.
That same closeness defines the guest experience too — from tastings at the winery to conversations with Stefan himself.
International harvests, local roots
Before taking over the estate, Stefan worked with wineries in California, New Zealand, Australia, France, South Africa, Canada, and across Austria. Each place added perspective, discipline, and insight.
Back in Hohenwarth, those experiences now support a style of winemaking that feels both grounded and open to the wider world.
Beyond wine, still from the garden
While most grapes are sold to other winemakers, fruit from the family house garden is used for the estate's schnapps. It is another expression of the same philosophy: use what the land gives, work with care, and keep quality personal.
That combination of wine, fruit, and family agriculture is part of what makes the estate distinctly Obritzhauser.
"Good wine begins with respect — for the land, for the season, and for the generations who worked it before us."
— Weingut Obritzhauser
