About Us

For generations, the Obritzhauser family has lived in harmony with the land in Hohenwarth, farming, raising animals, and growing wine since 1639.
Their story is one of dedication, tradition, and evolution—rooted in the soil of Lower Austria.
From mixed farming to a focus on viticulture, each generation has shaped the path forward.
What began centuries ago continues today with fresh vision and deep respect for the past.

Legacy in Motion

Josef and Anna Obritzhauser, Stefan’s grandparents, founded their own winery and mixed farm in 1939. Alongside vineyards, they raised cows and kept a bull until 1978, when they shifted their focus more fully toward farming and wine. Their son Erwin later took over the business and, in 1994, decided to discontinue pig breeding to concentrate solely on the winery and farm. In 2016, Stefan stepped in to carry the family legacy forward.

After graduating from the Higher Vocational School of Viticulture and Fruit Growing in 2002, he completed his military service and began working at the Schloss Fels winery. His curiosity and dedication led him abroad, where he gained hands-on experience at some of the world’s most respected wineries, including Kendall-Jackson in California, GisVin in New Zealand, Twomey in Napa Valley, DeBortoli Wines and Haselgrove in Australia, M. Chapoutier in France, and Trius Wines in Canada. Upon returning to Austria, he worked at the Krems Winery and later joined Schlumberger Wein- & Sektkellerei GmbH in 2014 as an oenologist. He started in quality control and later took on responsibilities for contract vineyards and grape harvest coordination. Today, he plays a key role in managing production for three well-known brands: Schlumberger, Hochriegl, and Goldeck.

Beyond Borders, Back to the Vines

Even with his commitments in Vienna and Bad Vöslau, Stefan returns to Hohenwarth on weekends to personally manage the family winery, still supported by his father. Despite his global experience and work with prestigious wine brands, his connection to home remains strong. The vineyard is more than just a business—it’s a living thread that ties past and present together. Most of the grapes grown on the land are sold to other winemakers, supporting the local wine community, while the fruit used in his schnapps and brandies comes directly from his garden. These spirits reflect not only Stefan’s craftsmanship but also the personal care and attention he gives to every part of the process. There are no shortcuts—just honest work, deep knowledge, and the kind of passion that can’t be taught. His story, rooted in tradition and shaped by curiosity, is a reminder that great winemaking doesn’t begin in a factory—it starts in the vineyard, in the soil, and in the hands of those who truly love what they do. Each bottle, each vintage, is a quiet celebration of heritage, commitment, and the enduring rhythm of life on the land.
